Surrey and South London Dog Training and Behaviour

Professional and friendly dog training across Surrey and South London

Courses and Workshops for Older Dogs

For dogs over 5 months we offer a variety of courses and workshops (younger can attend Puppy School)

5th January Update

Following Boris' announcement last night, all in-person training must now be suspended until lockdown measures are lifted. Clients with existing bookings will all be contacted. Online training classes and 121s are available to book as usual.

In-person classes do not typically involve any dogs playing with other dogs as this would encourage people to get too close to one another, breaking government guidelines. Online classes are both cheaper and more efficient, particularly when teaching new puppies and we find the puppies who learn online generally progress much quicker than those attending in-person classes. Socialisation involves gentle exposure to a range of environments and stimuli and puppy classes alone are simply not enough to produce well-socialised dogs. Take what you learn in your online class, practise at home and then generalise the skills in the real world once the behaviours are familiar.

For one to one training, under normal circumstances our trainers would come into your house, learn about your dog, the training requirements and start the training needed indoors, away from distractions. Our online sessions are cheaper than in-person (no travel time for us) and just as effective.

Stay safe and keep on training!

Calm and Controlled is our six week foundation course aimed at dogs who have had little or no prior training, dogs who need refresher training of the basics, new rescue dogs and dogs who struggle to concentrate in the presence of people and/or other dogs.

During the course dogs (and owners) work outdoors at our venue in Crystal Palace, learning how to gain focus, teach recall, basic cues including sit, down, stand, stay, walk with a loose lead and to do all this whilst remaining calm in the presence of others. We are fortunate to have plenty of space so if dogs require more distance from others at first this can be accommodated.

There are six dogs per course to allow for spacing and individual coaching. Louise and Lily run a course each.

Upon completion of the course, dogs are eligible to join our Intermediate Course.

Intermediate Course is for dogs who have already trained with us, either through Puppy School, Calm and Controlled or via one to one sessions.

This six week course primarily focuses on teaching dogs self-control but also includes recall exercises, loose lead, not jumping up and a solid stay, plus more.

The course is currently being offered in two formats, online and in person. In-person courses are held outdoors in Crystal Palace and indoors in West Wickham.

Six dogs per course to allow for spacing and individual coaching. Louise and Neal currently offer these courses.

Workshops

At our outdoor venue in Crystal Palace we offer a variety of workshops.

Parkour A 45 minute workshop teaching dogs to work with their owners to navigate a series of obstacles including tunnels, wobble cushions, weave poles, a ball pit and more. Great for confidence building, learning to focus on owners around other dogs and really good fun! Six dogs per session.

Loose Lead Workshop is also for dogs of any age, one hour. Teach your dog to walk by your side, maintaining a loose lead using a variety of techniques. Plenty of space available so suitable for dogs who may usually struggle around others. Six dogs per session.

Hoopers is a new dog sport similar to agility but low-impact. Suitable for dogs over 5 months, owners teach dogs to go through hoops, around barrels and through tunnels as directed. Really good fun and tiring for the dogs! Helps to promote a good working relationship between dog and owner, training in the presence of other dogs also helps build owner focus. Six dogs per session.
